Charities & Local Associations
John Jackson & Dick has a long tradition of supporting charities, and associations and good causes in the local community. We are pleased to be associated as sponsors or supporters of
Bothwell Scarecrow Festival - a fun festival for all the family which proved hugely popular when launched in 2011, and has become bigger and better every year, and is arguably now the biggest and most successful festival of its type in Scotland. Copied, but not equalled! The 2019 Festival ran from 7 to 15 September, and was bigger than ever. Watch for many imaginative and funny scarecrows appearing around late August 2020. After appearances from President Trump in recent years, which of our politicians will be lampooned this year?
MusicFest, an outdoor live music concert at Uddingston Cricket Club (whom we have long sponsored) was arranged by the Scarecrow Festival organisers and was very successful. See the Festival website for more details.
John Jackson & Dick's expanded offices will feature paintings by members of Bothwell Art Club which were on display at the Scarecrow Festival.
Uddingston Cricket Club - We have been associated with, providing legal services to, and supporting and sponsoring Uddingston CC and its associated Hockey and Rugby Clubs for over 40 years. The Cricket Club has long competed at the top levels of cricket in Scotland, won the Scottish Cup three times between 2003 and 2011, and the West Premier League Championship in 2013. We delighted that 2019 was another successful year for the Club, again winning the West Premier League Championship, now reverted to its traditional name, the Western Union Championship. Uddingston then played the East Premier champions for the Scottish League championship, played very well and set a massive score, but their opponents played even better and passed that with inly a few balls left. The match was a great showcase for club cricket in Scotland.
The Club has been providing sports, recreation and social facilities for the community since 1883, and is fortunate to have some of the best facilities in Scotland for cricket and hockey. Scotland squad training in both cricket and hockey is held at Uddingston.
John Jackson & Dick worked with UC&SC on the construction of the new Pavilion in 2008, and the funding and construction in 2015 of a floodlit artificial hockey pitch. The hockey club now provides coaching to hundreds of children every week, operating in many schools, and in 2015 was awarded European Hockey Federation (EHF) Club of the Year Award for Small Clubs (max 300 members). We continue to work with the club on further improvement projects.
Rotary Club of Hamilton - Successive generations of partners of John Jackson & Dick have been involved with Rotary International for many decades, and participate in and support the organisation's activities in the local community and to raise funds for many good causes in the UK and internationally. Through Rotary, John Jackson & Dick has been participating in career advice events for Hamilton Grammar School, and will be happy to assist other local schools similarly.
Lanarkshire Ice Rink The ice rink in Mote Hill, Hamilton was constructed and opened in 1967, and the late Tom Dick, then Senior Partner of John Jackson & Dick, provided legal services for the project to the rink's founders. For many years thereafter, John Jackson & Dick acted as Company Secretaries to the ice rink company. Following the death of Tom Dick, the T B Dick Trophy was dedicated to his memory, and is one of the premier open curling competitions run by the rink. John Jackson & Dick is pleased to sponsor to competition.
Will Aid - We have been supporting this national annual fundraising event every November for many years.
St Andrew's Hospice Make a Will Fortnight - We also support this initiative by excellent local charity and have contributed a substantial sum over the years.
